After the amazing experience visiting The Baths on Virgin Gorda we wondered what to do with the rest of the day. Too early to head for our night stop, we decided to sail the short 4 miles to Great Dog Island where we had read there might be some good snorkelling.
Approaching Great Dog Island |
It was pleasant sail across and, as we got closer, we made our way around towards West Bay which, as the name would suggest, is on the western side of the island.
On a mooring buoy in West Bay, Great Dog Island |
Here we found a National Park mooring buoy which the regulations permit yachts to use for a couple hours for snorkelling/diving stops.
Having mastered clearing her ears as she dived down, Charlotte was in her element snorkelling and we regularly saw her swimming along at 5-6 metres depths.
West Bay was not the best snorkelling site but it does have quite a deep wall which was fun to dive down and along.
Here we saw soft corals, a good number of fish and lots of interesting colours on the rocks from thinner hard coral growths.
It was another nice place to spend the afternoon and we all had great fun in the water in proper holiday mode.
