Küçük Kuyruk

After our disappointingly rolly night and our morning swim into Ölü Deniz lagoon, we untied our self from Turkey, upped anchor and left at 11am on Sunday 5th October.
The restaurant at Karacaören Bükü

Ölü Deniz is, essentially, at the northeastern corner of a large bay and at that bay’s southwestern corner is a small sheltered cove called Karacaören Bükü, where we had thought we might stay overnight had the anchorage at Ölü Deniz been full. On our way to Fethiye Körfezi we went in to take a look. There were several yachts and gulets anchored there. It’s somewhere we may come back to so that we can visit the restaurant there, which we have heard is rather good.

The ruins on Karacaören Adalari
We came out of the small bay carefully making our way south to avoid the reefs which, apparently, are a place where passing yachts and gulets frequently run aground. To our left was the island of Karacaören Adalari, which is covered in mediaeval ruins. Our passage would take us just 15 miles west but also into the wonderful cruising area of Fethiye Körfezi and Skopea Limani.

Fethiye Körfezi is a large bay with several islands and hundreds of little bays. Fethiye and Göçek are the 2 main towns which are home to several charter yacht bases and numerous local yachts. The whole area is a Special Environmental Protection Area which restrict activities a little but it is still an incredibly popular ‘yachting playground’.

We headed for what we hoped would be a pretty anchorage, Küçük Kuyruk, and we were not disappointed. There was one large gulet and 3 charter boats already anchored there and so we positioned ourselves next to the charter yachts. It’s a stunningly beautiful little bay with excellent shelter and we have put it down on our ‘must revisit’ list of anchorages.

Better still, by late afternoon all of the other yachts had all left and so we had the place completely to ourselves for a few hours before another couple of yachts turned up to also spend the night.
