Kira Panayía - Órmos Planitis

Entrance to órmos Planitis
At the northern end of Kira Panayía is a landlocked bay called órmos Planitis. It looked to be very sheltered but our pilot book warns that attempting the narrow entrance can be “quite a frightening experince” in strong northerly winds. We wanted to visit and, since the northerly winds were set to be light enough for a day or two, on 5 June we made our way around the western side of Kira Panayía to órmos Planitis. It was easy to see how the shape of coastline and the entrance could funnel in and concentrate any waves or swell but for us the conditions were very benign.

Inside there was complete shelter which we shared with a 26 foot Italian yacht. The only negative to this remote anchorage was that the water was very cloudy, so all in all we felt that life was treating us very well.

Later on a very large yacht turned up and started honking its foghorn. It turned out that they knew the gentleman on the 26 foot yacht and were saying hello and inviting him over for dinner. From our vantage point it was definitely a case of ‘Little and Large’.
