Finally leaving the marina |
On Sunday we bought some fresh bread, paid the marina bill and finally left our mooring.

Approaching Marmaris and Netsel Marina |
Leaving Marmaris Bay |
A southerly course from Netsel took us out of Marmaris bay and a short distance down towards the next headland. Just to the west of the headland is Kadırga Limanı, a pretty bay with a very sheltered inlet. The passage allowed us to check for engine leaks and to clear any bubbles in the cooling system because it was a motor the whole way. The wind was less than 5 knots except for the last mile (inevitably!) as we approached the headland.
Moored in Kadırga Limanı |
Once inside the bay we found that we were the only people there and so took our time mooring up in the little inlet. It is very sheltered and the water is clear but still a little chilly (19 degrees Celcius) so Nicky donned a wetsuit for running the lines ashore.
The evening was very still and we lazed in the cockpit reading. I finished Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s ‘A World of My Own’, an account of his 1968/9 epic non-stop, single handed sail around the world in his 32ft long yacht Suhaili; the first ever. Inspiring stuff. All of his position fixes were done with a sextant; we must practice our astronavigation this year!
Dinner on board in a quiet anchorage was very pleasant, as was being able to go to bed without having to set an alarm clock. After just over 2 weeks of work on BV I think that we had earned a lazy start in the morning.
Kadırga Limanı |
Tomorrow, wind or not we’ll move on. Where to we don’t know but we’ll sort that out when we know how much wind there is. With a good wind we’ll press on, otherwise we will just motor southwest for a bit and find a new anchorage.
