Nisís Korakonisia

Theoretically Sundays are a day of rest and so we looked for a good anchorage close to Porto Kheli to enjoy the day in. We had already seen lots of beautiful bays close by which would have worked well but in our pilot book there was also mention of an island just up the coast with ‘wonderful surroundings’. We were intrigued and went to take a look.

After a ‘huge’ passage of 6.6 miles on Saturday afternoon [Ed: we even got banter from Strevs about how short a distance we’d gone], we found ourselves in the gap between the little island of Korakonisia and the mainland.

The anchorage was already populated with 3 large motor yachts but we reversed into a large space at the end and deployed the ‘Nicky mooring device’ to swim 2 long lines ashore.

It was indeed a pretty anchorage with lovely clear water; an ideal spot in which to enjoy what was left of the weekend. Overnight it was very sheltered too and so by late Sunday afternoon we’d done lots of swimming, some blog writing watched fishermen set and retrieve their nets and had a candlelit dinner in the cockpit. All in all, a pretty successful lazy weekend. Next step was a return to Porto Kheli to pick up the hire car and a very early start on Monday morning to travel up to ancient Epidavros and ancient Mycenae.
