Black Cay Bahamas

We left Norman’s Pond Cay and set off towards Georgetown but in a straight line that was a passage of over 30 miles. Unfortunately, the wind angle meant that we needed to tack to make progress, so sailing all the way to Georgetown was too much for us to achieve before nightfall.  Based upon our progress we looked for a suitable anchorage for the night.  We could have sailed overnight but, whilst reading the pilot book, Nicky had found an entry for Black Cay which was close to our route.  It sounded like a nice place so we diverted in there at around 4pm.

The anchorage area was potentially quite shallow but it was typically bright and sunny which helped when it came to piloting our way.

The nicest looking area to anchor was actually very shallow but there was just enough depth for us to get in fairly close to the beach.  The chart was completely wrong and according to it we should have been well and truly aground.  However, despite the charted depths, it proved to be a nice place to relax in overnight whilst we waited for the forecast stronger wind to help us on our way towards Georgetown in the morning.
