Getting the new generator into position

The machinery space had a major clean up to get rid of the worst of the staining and accumulated dust and grime. Having worked out the technique, lifting in the new generator went very smoothly even though it was a heavier lift that the old one which had had some parts removed from it.

The 240 volt load and the control panel wiring were connected up leaving the exhaust, 12 volt supply and the fuel and cooling pipes as the next tasks.

Additionally, because the engine mounts did not exactly match the old ones, new bolt holes needed to be drilled and tapped to fully secure the new generator. We’d also need to check that we could fit the top parts of the sound proofing capsule before the engine mount holes were drilled.

This was as things stood at the end of a busy day as we received confirmation that the travel hoist was available for lifting out BV to clean her hull at about 11 am in the morning. We’d have to include an extra step to secure the generator for the lift-out as there wasn’t enough time to properly drill and tap the mounting holes. Delaying the lift-out was not an option as the travel hoist is fully booked every day for the next 4 weeks.
