Getting the old generator out

Work on fitting the new generator started as soon as it had been delivered. The new control panel and wiring were fitted and the old wiring taken out. The machinery space was cleared and floorboards and panelling removed to reveal the full extent of the staining from the sea water leaks. The generator's oil was drained and the water pump and starter motor were stripped off it to reduce the weight.

Whilst we could do a lot of the work, physically lifting out the old generator and lifting in the new one was beyond what the two of us could take on. This where Rob and his colleague Phil stepped in.
Nicky’s varnish work was protected.
Amazingly there are 2 people pictured here fitted into the tiny machinery space as they start to lift out the old generator.

Our system of pulleys and lines came in handy to help lift the old generator up into the cockpit.

And once it was up in the daylight the true extent of the effects of the salt water leak were apparent.
