Nisís Palaio Tríkeri

Nisos Pithu
Our plan had been to leave the Gulf of Volos as quickly as possible so that we could get Charlotte and Sophie to the pretty  islands of the Northern Sporades for their holiday. However, to break up the journey, and also to give them time to get used to life on board again, we decided to spend their second night with us at Nisís Palaio Tríkeri, the small island near the entrance to the Gulf which we had particularly enjoyed. We left Volos at 11 am on 16 July and headed south. There was absolutely no wind so we motored. Close to Nisís Palaio Tríkeri is the small island of Nisis Pithou, now one of our regular stops it seems because we stopped there again so that we could swim. Charlotte and Sophie had brought snorkelling gear with them and spent hours exploring the rocky shallows.

Today’s cocktail was the Mojito
By late afternoon the wind had built so we insisted on raising the sails for the 3½ mile sail around to Nisís Palaio Tríkeri. It was good fun and tacking up the narrow channel between the port and the mainland dusted off the cobwebs from Charlotte and Sophie’s sailing skills. Rather than moor in the port we continued to beat up the channel to the nice bay just to the east of it. The Sophie and Nicky mooring team were deployed and very quickly we were anchored in the bay with 2 lines running from our stern to trees on the shore. It was a lovely location and we spent the evening organizing and cooking a barbecue.

One of the great benefits of having Charlotte and Sophie on board is that they have organised a number of cocktails. That evening’s cocktail was the Mojito; one of my favourites and perfect for a warm summer evening. With a barbecue, lots of chat and lots of cocktails to enjoy somehow we completely missed taking any pictures of our visit to Nisís Palaio Tríkeri.
