Computer Issues in Grenada
We left Barbados at 1230 on 17th and sailed overnight to Grenada.
The 138 miles passage was a very comfortable one and we anchored at 1150 in
Prickly Bay. This is a Port of Entry and so our first priority was to complete the
arrivals formalities with Customs and Immigration. I could then turn my
thoughts to trying to breath some life into my computer. It had been
complaining that it had not been updated with the latest software and so whilst
we were at the Barbados Yacht Club, where we had a good internet connection (the
first time for us in Barbados), I thought that it was time to attend to that.
It turned out to be a very bad move. Instead of updating, the process corrupted
everything on the computer and stopped it from starting up properly. We are now
24 hours on in the recovery process and the computer works again but I have
lost all 7 of the latest Blog entries that Nicky was going to edit during our
passage here. It’s going to take quite some time to sort all of the photos out
and to rewrite those entries, particularly as the computer has dumped Photo
Editing software along with the map templates I use for showing where we are.
Bear with us, we’ll get the updates coming again but there’s more than a bit of
work to get back to where we were just before leaving Barbados.
21 January update. We have moved around to St George’s, the capital of Grenada,
and are now anchored off Ross Point just a short dinghy ride from town. There
seems to be quite a lot to see here and so we expect to stay a few days. After drinking
lots of coffee in a cafĂ© whilst a new copy of Photoshop downloaded I’m now back
in business and can look at sorting out all of the photographs for Barbados.
Hopefully some more blog entries will appear shortly.
