Underwater Sculpture Park Grenada

The Blog entries are being posted out of chronological order as I finish them, so keep an eye on the list of posts on the right-hand side to spot any that you haven’t read yet. If you haven’t looked at them the title should show up in bold text.

Once we had got our refilled Camping Gaz bottle back on Wed 24 Jan we moved 3 miles up the coast from St Georges and picked up a mooring buoy in the marine park. The reason for the move was so that we could visit Grenada’s underwater sculpture park created by Jason Decaires Taylor. We arrived at 1730 and so it was too late to swim then but we were in position ready for the morning.

We intended to move north on Thursday and so we took the dinghy over to the right area just after breakfast. At that time it was just us there and so it took a little time to find the sculptures. Our first glimpse was of the older group of statues, some of which had fallen down. It was actually a bit spooky because the statues lying on the seabed looked like dead bodies.

Moving around the area we were also treated to some fabulous glimpses of underwater life as we searched for the other sculptures.

Out of the murk a newer sculpture appeared with the statues all upright in a circle.

They were a little deeper and so we had less time to look face to face at the sculptures but it was certainly the better group of the two that we had found. Having seen the statues, we did a tour of the bay looking for some more marine life and I was lucky enough to get these photos.

For us, seeing the marine life was more interesting than viewing the sculptures but, all the same, we were glad that we had seen the latter.

And, there was just time for one more look at the statues before we had to return to BV and set sail north to our next island destination, Carriacou. We have read that the snorkelling there is even better and so it should be a good place to stop for a few days.
