The nice bay next to Golden Bay

From our lunchstop in Anchor Bay beside Popeye Village we headed south just a few miles to “the nice bay next to Golden Bay”. Barry and Catherine did tell us what it was called but neither of us can remember and it’s not named on our charts. However, both yachts managed to rendezvous there and anchor next to each other; the conditions were perfect.

One of the reasons that we came here was that Barry and Catherine had both really enjoyed the snorkelling here and had rated it as amongst the best on Malta. We had to take a look…
… all in all, we had to agree. A great place to snorkell with lots of interesting boulders to swim amongst.

These guys have been stars
The evening’s entertainment was a barbecue on board Dinah. It was a lovely evening with great food cooked by Barry, much wine, a beautiful sunset and we even managed to get a rare photograph of Nicky, BV and me all in one shot. We took lots of other photos but most seemed to have me auditioning for a gurning competition so have been edited out. Our star hosts, however, seem to be remarkably photogenic.

Great company, a fantastic anchorage and fab food; you couldn’t want more.

In the morning we took Catherine’s advice to walk the circuit around the bay. Rowing ashore we climbed up a low slope to look into the next bay from an area of smooth clay.

Looking back into our bay we had a good view of our anchored yachts and the Radisson Hotel beyond in Golden Bay.

Walking the ridgeline brought us a half circle to the other side, with even better views down onto the boats.

Weekend time was running out and so we stomped back around at a lower lever to get back to our dinghy. A short row back to BV and we were on board in time to host Barry and Catherine for coffee and our last event together…..this time.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. We took one last plunge to cool off, said our farewells and then Dinah and Blue Velvet went their separate ways. Dinah heading back to Dockyard Creek whilst we headed north to Mgarr on Gozo. Last event together 'this time around' – we will make sure our paths will cross again.
