Üçagiz Limanı, Kekova Roads

Kale Köy

The task for the rest of the morning was to move BV 3 miles further into Kekova Roads. We went for the easy option of just unrolling the genoa which gave us lots of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The area is dominated by the village of Kale Köy and, more specifically, the old Crusader castle which sits on the high ground above. The mooring area in front of Kale Köy is frequented by the gulet tripper boats and holding for the anchor is questionable.

We therefore made our way into Üçagiz Limanı, the long inlet just to the north, and anchored in company with the other rally yachts. Here we had better shelter, much better holding, and could still see the ruined castle up on the high ground.

During the afternoon we spent a couple of hours on board Songster. Bob and Eileen bought her last winter and had asked for some help on getting to grips with their twin spinnaker pole system. They had seen the extra speed we had achieved by poling out the genoa on BV the previous day and wanted to do the same. We worked through how their poles could be used and explained how we brace our pole with an extra line so that it is secure. This gives the option of either flying the genoa poled out, furling it, or gybing the genoa across to the other tack whilst leaving the pole in place; ideal if you are short handed. Our explanations earned us an ice-cool beer on board Songster and then we were left with just enough time to get ready for the evening drinks party.

Tucked into a nearby cove were some old floating pontoons and, at the allotted time, dinghies from the anchored fleet made a beeline towards them. In next to no time there was the lively buzz of conversation and, of course, tall stories of sailing exploits being told. The party lasted well into evening which made for a late dinner back on board BV.
